Knowing Progressivism Part VI - When in Control

So now you have just installed your shiny new progressive government. The excitement is in the air because all their promises are soon to be a reality. More rights, new freedoms and lower taxes for the majority of the people. It is only a matter of time before the the dawn of these great days. The only problem is that it never happens, and disappointment is soon to follow. So why do they fail in their promises and what can we expect during their term in government?

First, lets be clear, they don't really fail on delivering their promises. If they feel that a policy is not practical or can be viewed as a negative on other polices, they never had an intention of implementing it. Instead they try to put blame of the failure on the efforts of their opposition. This serves for them to put into law policies that they really want, at the same time removing themselves from responsibility of the failure.

Once again, entitlements are the key to their power to govern. The more entitlements a progressive government can put into place, the better it is for them. This helps them maintain support from the public while the public allows them to grow the size of government. History also shows that when these entitlements begin to become too expensive, it becomes time for the opposition to govern, and once again the progressives can place the blame on them. What they are trying to create is a zero liability citizen. What this means is the progressives rely on a certain percentage of the population to be beneficiaries of the gifts of government without having any responsibility on maintaining them. Every time they get into power they try to grow the zero liability citizen by offering more entitlements. Obviously this is unsustainable. Eventually the providers of these entitlements begin to decrease in numbers and ability.

So now it is time for the progressives to appeal to the emotions of the zero liability citizen. They characterize the un-sustainability of these programs as the greed of the few whom refuse to share their wealth. This is the creation of "class warfare" and it is another form of scapegoating. At this point they have little choice but to redefine what is wealthy so that can increase the number of providers to the system. It is also amusing that they can scorn a percentage of the population at the same time including them into the collective.

The collective is another means of control for the progressive. This is designed to make any individual choice appear as selfishness. The progressive government will often state that individual owes it to the collective in order to have a better society. This is an extremely dangerous idealism. It installs the belief that collective rights out weight that of the rights of the individual. This gives the government a way to control the means of production, but also gives them the ability to seize property from an individual.

So now we are at what we can really expect from you progressive government. If you remember that the progressives believe that only the greatest academics should lead, they underhandedly try to sell the public a "benevolent tyranny." An idea that government knows best. If you were to look back on history, you would find for every right they entitle to portion of the population, they have also created a responsibility to a smaller portion. This is an idealism right from Karl Marx, "From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs." This is a thinking process that they have been slowly indoctrinating into the public for generations, while denying that they support this philosophy. Every time we allow them to govern, we get closer to a total government scenario, and that is what we are "progressing" toward.
