Once again lawmakers rush to counter the effects of global warming by, how else, passing laws to punish the public. This time it is because evil people are deliberately idling their automobiles too long in an apparent attempt to hasten the effects of man made climate change.
Forget that climate change is a study and NOT a science. Pay no attention to the fact that the study has proven to be corrupted to produce a desired result. Never mind that it is globally colder then it has been in a hundred years. Ignore the fact that idling you vehicle for at least a minute on the first start of the day increases the longevity and efficiency of the engine. Completely disregard that by improving metropolitan infrastructure and traffic lighting would reduce automobile emissions much greater then convincing people to idle their vehicles a minute or so less. And let's totally ignore that most people are cognitive of the price of fuel and most likely trying to reduce the damage to their wallets. Put all that aside and let's create a law that fines people $100.00 for idling for too long.
This is the position that Calgary MLA Dave Taylor had taken when he proposed Bill 230. What was his inspiration for such a policy? Perhaps Mr. Taylor has been fully baptized in the kool-aid of the climate change alarmist. If that is why, then a least there is some morality involved in his motives, as misguided as they may be. Maybe Mr Taylor is trying to "legislate for the sake of legislating." By staying front and center in the public eye, he may believe will demonstrate his advanced sensibility and therefore increasing his chance of re-election. More likely, it is as simple as another device to raise the ailing revenues for all levels of government within Alberta.
Whatever the reason may be, it is yet another example of the lack of respect that politicians and government have for the people they where chosen to serve. There are truly serious issues that need attention, but instead MLA's like Mr. Taylor prefer to waste time and resources by pushing laws that punish people for their harmless behavior. Send Mr. Taylor, and those like him a message at the ballot box. It is time for our politicians to stop telling us what to do, and to start listening to what they are being told to do.
